I am setting up 3 servers as NBU 45 SAN media servers. These 3 servers are clustered. I need to know what system name (physical or logical) to use when creating the Policy and also what name to use in the client configuration files. (vm.conf, etc.)

Also, any general observations would be appreciated.

Sadly it's not so easy... there many different kinds of configurations available with clusters (depending on the location of tape devices, locally attached, shared by SCSI or by Fiber Channel).

It's quite well explained in the Netbackup system administrator's guide.

If each of your cluster nodes have a locally attached device then you'll have to use the physical node name.

It doesn't really helps but think to take a look at the admin guide (near page 787-800)

Typically in a clustered environment the names are deterined by the cluster. If a clustered server is a media server the thing to decide is if the tape device(s) is connected to one only or will the device be clustered as well. If the device is clusterd then you assign a separate name to the device and it is that name that is used for vm.conf etc. If the device is physically connected to a specific server, then you use the actaul given name of the server for vm.conf etc.

What we have ...
In one case I have a HP 4/40 connected to a clustered environment. The device is not clustered but two of the drives are connected to node 1 and two are connected to node2 with node1 being the robotics control. I then added the storage units to a storage unit group and applied the group to my policies.
