Hi all,
Can't I use the same tape for two schedules under the same policy e.g full backup and cumulative incrementals..
Im just testing the s/w before actually upgrading my old backup system to veritas netbackup.
Im gettin error 96 when Im tryin to use same tape for cum. incremental while I can successfully use it for a second full backup wihtout getting this error.
By the way we are using netbackup 4.5 MP6 and there is a single drive and 8 tape slots in our roboric library.
Thanks in advance,
Jyoti

Hi Jyoti,

probably you have different retention levels for the full backup schedule and the cum. incr. backup schedule?
Then NetBackup will write the images on different tapes.

Kind regards,

mrjazz

You can set differant retention levels allowed to write to the same tape, which is okay for testing but not recomended for live systems.

NetBackup by default does NOT allow a tape to contain images with different retention periods.
If your FULL backup has a retention of 1 month
and your INCREMENTAL has a retention of 1 week
then they cannot share the same tape because of the different retention periods.

either make both schedules to have the same retention period
or
select "allow multiple retentions per media"
This is located on the "media" tab of the master/media server's properties.
