Hello,

We have about 200 workstations and as domain server we use Samba 2.5.10 server. And recently we found the issue when workstation cannot login by using correct password. Sometimes it takes about 6-8 tries to login with the same password and user. I blame on Samba. For me, it looks like Samba sometimes frozen or too busy to let anybody login.
Can somebody help me to resolve this issue, please?

Best regards,
Oleg

what is the spec of your samba server?
what OS is it running?
how is your network set up? do you have 1000KB 100KB or 10KB network into the server?
how does it authenticate, does it talk to a Windows box?
does it talk to an LDAP server for authentication?
if it does is that LDAP server on a different machine?

we need to know a little bit more info.

Agreed, some more info is needed, Samba should handle those logins no problem, but depending on the applications, you may simply be running low on bandwidth. What do your samba logs show? That's where I would start. A quick test would be to put one of the computers having the problem on a small hub with the server only. Reboot, login, shutdown, startup login... Do this several times. If the problem is gone, then you know the server is fine.
