Samba and gcc 1

i am trying to install smaba 2.2.8a in /opt using gcc. when i try to run configure (as root) in /opt/samba2.2.8a/source i get an error canot find gcc or cc in path. i have inserted /usr/local/bin/gcc into the path. and i'm on solaris 8 any ideas please.

Is gcc actually appearing in the path when you echo $PATH? If so, have you exported the new PATH (export $PATH)?

Just a couple of possibilities.

Have you considered simply installing the package from

http://www.sunfreeware.com?
