On a friend's old windows 98se laptop the incoming email scanner slows down the downloading of emails far too much. If I disable scanning of incoming emails, won't I still be protected from opening up emails with attached viruses by other avg components?

Thanks

I belive that if AVG dosent spot malware in the email during download, then it will only detect the presence after you have opened a file and executed the malware installer.
The problem here is that although AVG will spot most malware at this point, some bad files may get copied and executed at the next startup.

If this really is a problem, try using web based email.
and select an ISP that scans email for you.

Steve: Delphi a feersum engin indeed.
