TN8400AP Server circuit pack
The TN8400 Server circuit pack is the platform for an S8400 Server, which is a
Linux-based server that occupies a single slot on a standard TN carrier. The
S8400 Server provides Communication Manager processing functions in stand-alone,
single port network telephony systems requiring up to 500 stations.
For information on the S8400 Server and TN8400 Server circuit pack, see Avaya
S8400 Server on page 41.
TN8400BP circuit pack
The TN8400BP is the newest version of the TN8400 family of TN form factor
servers. It uses the same processors as the TN8400AP and supports the same
external interfaces as the TN8400AP.
The TN8400BP circuit pack will support any Communication Manager applications
beginning with Communication Manager Release 4.0.3 and later.
The primary differences between the TN8400AP and the TN8400BP are:
Both hard drives are functionally equivalent. However, each type requires its
own special software driver. The drivers which communicate with the TN8400BP
SATA disk drive are not included on the installation CDs for Communication
Manager releases prior to Communication Manager Release 4.0.3. The lack of these
drivers makes it impossible to format the SATA disk and install the earlier
versions of Communication Manager on the TN8400BP circuit pack.
This limitation requires that a failed TN8400AP circuit pack be replaced with a
TN8400AP circuit pack.
Note: The TN8400AP can be upgraded to have equivalent support of the TN8400BP if
you use the memory upgrade kit (material code 218452).

Communication Manager Release 3.1, S8400 server:
In its initial release the TN8400 supports only the port network in which it
resides. It does not support any EPNs and therefore the CMC, G600 and G650
Media Gateway quantities listed for the S8400 under EPNs are listed as NA.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S8400, RoHS compliant platform introduced in Communication Manager R3.1 :
capacities are primarily based on the G3CSI platform; see the S8400 column in
this table for details. It can be housed in G650, G600, and the CMC cabinet.
G600 and CMC are supported only with migrations to S8400, and S8400 on G650 is
supported for new installs. The rest of the gateways are remote gateways only,
for example H.323 and H.248 gateways. S8400 also supports a Processor Ethernet
(PE). CLANs and PE can coexist on an S8400. For the SIP solution, SES can
connect over a C-LAN or a PE.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The S8400 trunk maximum of 400 limits the number of available PRI interfaces.
The SIP Trunk software maximum for the S8400 was reduced from 450 to 400 to
bring it in line with the SIP Trunk Offer Maximum for the S8400. This change
was implemented to conserve DRAM.
