I picked up a S3 savage 16 meg agp video card (new). When I install it everything is ok while I am at 256 colors and 600X800 resolution. When I try to change settings to 24 bit or 32 bit and 1024X768 resolution windows ask for a reboot and then locks up during boot normally at the splash sreen.
I have Win98SE an AMDK62 550MHz and a AAzza mainboard. Board bios will handle a large AGP card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found S3 video cards somewhat of a bugger.
Here is what I would do.
Even though you bought the card new, go to the S3 web site and get the latest driver. If that doesn't work then;

1. Look at msinfo32 ( look for conflicts )
2. Look for conflicts in the autoexec and config sys and remove any "exclude" statements ( from your old video card.
3. Check your bios and make sure it is set for P-N-P
4. Then I remove the video, sound, NIC, mouse , and any other device that msinfo said conflicted ( making sure you have the drivers to reinstall them, from the control manager.
5. restart windows, and let the computer find them itself.
This will reissue memory allocations to the devices, you installed
