How do I unlock sites in the publish server tab? I have our website ready for upload but when I connect to my server my files all transfer with an rwx code in the locked column. Is this normal and is this the reason my site is not going live?

The adobe Golive help tells me I can unlock the site by right clicking and selecting unlock. Unfortunately, such an option is not present on my context menu leaving me quite confused.

Any help you all can offer would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hmmm... i've never had this problem before but i think i know what your talking about.

First of all click on one of your local web site files and look in the inspector. The 'Publish' status should be "Always". All your local web site files should be set that way unless there is some reason you don't want them uploading.

Now connect to publish server. In the locked column all folder should be "rwx r-x r-x" and files should be "rw- r-- r--". (There are a few exceptions to this, such as PHP scripts that need execute privelages to work.) If anything doesn't have the right settings select the file(s) and in the inspector click the "FTP Access" tab. Folders should have checks on all read settings, the owner write setting, and all execute settings. Files should have checks on all read settings, and owner write setting only.

Thanks wiser3. I checked that stuff and everything seems to be in order. Our webpage is still completely down though. I know that I am the problem in this situation but am unsure exactly what I did to cause the problem which is troubling at best.

I tried to update a few of our pages yesterday and when I tried to connect to the server to upload them our the publish server tab didn't have the same files as the left side. It only had rougly 5 files none of which looked familiar. In an effort to remedy this I synchronized all. After synchronizing all the website went down and hasn't been back up since. What does the synchronize all function do? I thought I was just updating what the published file would read from our files, apparently I was way off base and am not left to fix a rather tough problem.

Thanks so much for your help above. I really appreciate it.

Synchronize all" compares your local files and server files. If i files only exist in one location it's down/uploaded to the other location. If the file is in both places it compares the modification dates and updates the oldest file with newest one.

Once my web site is up i use "Upload modified files..." to upload local web site files that have changed to the publish server.

What were the 5 files on your publish server that you didn't recognize?

What's the url for your site? I might be able to see something there that will help.

Well, I actually think I am fixing it. Not fixing it, but giving it the old high school try and just re-creating our site. our URL is I am currently trying to reload all of our images but slowly getting there.

Thanks so much for your help. Even though I couldn't fix the other problem and still have no idea what I did to it, the new site I am creating seems to be working fine.

Thanks again, and let me know if you can't pull it up. HOpefully it will all load for you. It's a fairly simple site so no judging please :)
