Russian chars in XP

I have changed from Win98 to XPHome, and discovered that
Russian fonts in Richedits only appear as question marks.
I have tested on several (newly installed) XP OS:s but
none works. I have access to both Delphi 4 and Delphi 7
but nothing. I realize I have omitted to do stg important,
but I can't figure out what. Could somebody please help?
