This is not strictly a Quark question, but rather a typographical one.

I have an image with a runaround, which sits centered in the gutter between two columns of text. Is it preferable to use:

a.) Justified alignment on both columns of text, so that each coulmn of text follows the curve of my runaround.

b.) Left aligned text on the left column and right aligned text on the right column, so that the text on either side of the image is ragged (and therefore not closely following the curve of the runaround)

c.) Left algined (ragged right) on both columns (and also the rest of the spread.

Also, is it a typographical faux pas to switch between styles of alignment in one spread?

Thanks for your help.

The a) solution would look best. You can have different alignments on one spread. If you are consequent about it. ex. The header could be left, right or centered, the bodytext justified. small headers in bodytext left aligned.
Just set up some kind of rules for when to use what! And observe how it looks, make sure the the readers aren't confused, unless it's a Popmusicmagazine that is supposed to look confused.
