I want to run a script every time the PC shuts down. There are a few utilities for this, but they are all services just sitting in your memory and waiting for the PC to shut down. There must be a more elegant solution. Is there no registry key or something where you can specify a script? God knows there are plenty for startup scripts...

Run gpedit.msc.

Computer Configuration|Windows Settings|Scripts|Shutdown.
