If you want something to start automatically during startup of Windows, you put a shortcut to the file in the Startup folder...

What about running something during shutdown? I would like to be able to add some quick tasks to be launched when someone does a shutdown on a server (or workstation) to do some quick cleanup, inform monitoring software, etc.

Anyone know of a way to do this?

I assume this if for Win2K - it also depends whether you are using active directory or just local users. For local users start->run->gpedit.msc where you can set scripts to run either when a PC turns off (local computer policy->computer configuration->windows settings->scripts->shutdown) or when a user logs off (local computer policy->user configuration->windows settings->scripts->logon). These can just be batch files so they're fairly easy to use. If you're using active directory do a similar thing but using group policy. This is a little bit more complicated so I'll not mention it for now just in case you already have what you need to know...
