Hi all

Another newbie replication question for y'all... I have 2 databases.. 1 MAIN and 1 TARGET. Both should be set as publishers & subscribers. I run rs_init to initalise the MAIN database and it's fine. But when I do the same steps for the TARGET database, it fails with this error message :

SQL Server 'TARGET' has been named & its physical name 'SYBASE_TARGET' is different from name expected. Execute sp_addserver to add the SQL Server with the correct physical name.

What's this suppose to mean? Is this a data source issue? Must the physical name be the same as the data source name? How do I resolve this? Has anyone encountered this before?

Thanks!!

Check out the on-line Error Message and Troubleshooting Guide, but it appears to be an issue of how the server is referenced as a remote server. I'm assuming these DB's aren't on the same Sybase installation, right? That is, it's unclear from what you're saying if the two instances of Sybase are on separate boxes.

It sounds like the physical name you've used in registering the server doesn't match the server's actual name. This could easily be a problem if you're trying to set up a test set-up with both DB's on one Sybase install (but you should still be able to make it work, just be sure you're not trying to register the server under the wrong name). If you are working on a test set-up, you might have better luck (and it'd be a better test if you put two installs of Sybase onto the box and replicated between them).

Another spot you might look at is the Admin Guide's section on remote servers.

HTH,

John
