I am building a in house network, using Microchip PICs connected via a 4 wire RS 485 network to a master PC ( Rs 232 port with converter to RS485 ). I plan on using CAT-5 cable, interconnecting up to 32 devices thru the plant. Baud rate is 9600 and no strong electromechanical issues. Im using the PICS to monitor and control some various machines.

Anyone see any problems with using the CAT-5 ? Im very low speed and total distance is less than 150 feet....

Just covering my butt here before the investment is made...

Based on that Criteria - Cat 5 is just fine - 5E if you see any sort of growth in the future.
