I have an old Brother EP44 printer/keyboard with an RS232 interface.

I wanted to test if this RS232 interface is still working.

I can remmembe in Windows 3.11 being a terminal emulating program. But cant find anything in Windows XP.

Also would like to wite some RS232 software to talk to this printer/keyboard - any suggestions?

Normal to test the interface 2/3 shorted, 4/5 shorted, 6/8/20 shorted, whatever the keyboard does should print.

Should be able to direct text files to the printer such as type xxx.txt > com1: for example. May have to do some port lockdown to set the baud rate.

Alternate would be to copy con com1:.

You'll need to build a cable, usual is 2/3 reversed, 7 common, 4/5 shorted both ends, 6/20 shorted both ends.

Clueless on the brother baud rate settings, but if it is like brother printers that will be a setting that you get to thru the switch panel.
