I installed Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 on my development laptop running win 2003 server. The laptop is a compaq nx5000 with a Hitachi(?) CGA-404ON (M56(A)(C) DVD-RW. The driver installed by windows (Provider Microsoft) is given as HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-404ON, so looks right.

Problem is everytime I start copying files to a normal blank CD, part way through the copying I get
error Copying File or Folder
Files on this CD-ROM are read-only. You cannot copy or move files over to this CD-ROM drive, and the disk stops copying. Yet afterwards I can still (occassionally) then copy stuff again by dragging. It seems very intermittent.

I tried with a few makes of CD and get same problem.

I looked at the Roxio site and the drive is one they support, but they say nothing about support for win 2003 server. I wondered if there are any issues people know about.

Also does anyone have DVD writer software working successfully on their win 2003 server computer they can recommend in case I cannot resolve the issue with the Roxio software.
Thanks
Andy

In regard to problems I'm having with my DVD-RW I Read an article on another site

which mentioned that for nero and Roxio you should use Windows XP compatability mode on the DVD-RW driver.

Whilst I understand how to set compatability mode on a program (select application in start menu, choose properties and choose the tab), I don't know how you would do this on a driver though? Anyone advise.

Sorry the URL above seems a bit strange. If you cannot get to it their suggestion is basically:
1. Install the DVD-RAM driver with Windows XP compatibility mode.
2. Use the formating tools also with XP compatibility mode.

Not sure how I a) install the driver with XP compaatbility mode and b) how I would set Drag-to-disk to the mode since it automatically starts. Any suggestions, and do you think this would help with my CD writing problem?

Thanks

Answering my own posts again. But may be useful to people. I found that whilst Roxio easy CD and DVD creator gave me problems (particularly with drag to disk), Nero worked fine in win 2003 server. Looking around at other forums there seems to be a two areas of suggestion for CD/DVD writing software if it doesn't work
1 Try using XP compatability mode on the drivers and software.
2 Try setting the IMAPI CD_Burning com service on or off (depending on your writer?) This is off by default and is there as far as I gather to provide a built in CD writing facility. As far as I can gather some DVD writing software needs it, others work better if its off (such as Nero)???

I'd really like to try and get Roxio easy CD and DVD creator working perfectly (as I had recently bought the licence), and would be interested in hearing from anyone whose managed to do it - if they have could they tell me how they managed to do it. Also I'd really like to know how you set a driver to compatability mode (I can do applications but not drivers).

having wasted too many CDs though I think for the moment I'll have to buy a copy of Nero when the demo runs out:-(
