Question: Can you take a 2500 and configure the AUX to dial out through a modem to another 2500 via AUX/modem and pass data traffic between the two devices. I say it cannot be done. But I have a headstrong engineer who says it can.

Yes it can be done the aux port it just an async port. Here is a Cisco Doc for using dialer-watches (for backup)
