Hi,

I have a network setup with 2 wired computers (A&B) and 2 wireless computers (C & D) connected via the router. Using the datascope on one of my wireless machines I detected that I could see transfers between wireless computers; between wireless and wired computers but NOT between the wired computers. I was wondering if someone could explain why I can't detect the wired traffic.

Thank you very much

Is that Datascope capturing only the inbound and outbound traffic of the wireless machine in which it is installed?

If that's the case then let's say you got Datascope in C, so you should be able to capture traffic for A-C, B-C and D-C.

Hi,

I have put my device (wireless) in promiscuous mode. So I should be able to see all traffic. If I have the datascope on C, I see traffic A-C, B-C, D-C, A-D, B-D but not A-B. I was wondering if someone could explain why.

Thanks

If C or D has to capture wired traffic of A and B then I think the router has to do some traffic mirroring so that those traffic on the wired ports of the router will be mirrored out of the wireless interface (antennae). Just like the SPAN feature on Catalyst switches.
