Is there a guide or anyone able to comment on the performance of the different series of routers? Let's say in the amount of traffic and/or number of users each series can truely support without noticable packet loss or slowdown? I'm somewhat discouraged when I hear things like, "You can implement a particular feature, but you will need to turn off ip route cache.", when we know that turning ip route cache off will negatively affect performance maybe to a point of having to purchase better hardware. So, worst case scenario capacity.

I'm particularly interested in the true capabilities of the

800
1700
2500
2600

Thanks a bunch,
Ned

800 series is a DSL/Cable/ISDN router.
1700 series is DSL/Cable/ISDN/T1/MultipleT1 router
2500 series is way old, and should be phased out of your network.
2600 series will handle up to a fractional ds3. Some 2600 series models will even take a full view via BGP.
