I have a Win2k server with 3 xp boxes. The server does dhcp and Dns for the lan. The win2k box is connected to the dsl modem and all computers can access the internet through Nat on the Win2k server. All is fine as long as the server is up. I want to install a router between the dsl modem and the win2k server and connect the xp boxes to the router.I still want the server to handle dhcp and logons for the local lan but I want the router to handle the Nat. Is this possible? How do I set up DNS etc.?Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks
Alex

Disable DHCP on the router, XP will use Win2k server DNS, you can do this by the options in DHCP. Configure DNS to use forwarders(put the ISP's DNS IP inside forwarders).

Note: It's a must to point your XP dns entry to Win2k server's DNS, otherwise logon will take from 5 min to 20 min.

Thanks for the help. Since My network is working fine as is, am I correct in assuming then that when I install the router all I will have to do is set its IP address as the gateway for the network and turn off NAT services in my win2k server since the router will handle the NAT? No other settings that must be changed?
Thanks
Alex

You're right but it's a little bit tricky to have your dhcp on the server. Basically after you setup your router and if you turn off your server, XP boxes will still connects to Internet unless their lease expires, they can't renew until the server is up. Note: This occurence will be very very seldom to happen so you can still proceed but I advise you to use the router DHCP.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
