Hello everybody,

I've been asked to look at the rostering / annual leave requirements of a department. There are 85 employees, of about 6 or 7 different grades. There are 3 sites and each site must have a certain number of staff of each grade for each day.

At the moment all the rota's and annual leave are done by hand - which as you can imagine is a complete nightmare!

The department head has decided that this could be computerised and I could write a database to do it !

I was just wondering if anyone had done something similar in the past and could give me some general tips or an idea of where to start!!

Thanks In Advance !!

Gee, that sounds like a fun project. Would your company consider farming out the task?

If not, try assembling some block models with parameters that attach to each department. Establish constraints and develop mathematical algorithms relating the variables to the constraints. If all else fails, consult a recent text on database design for some helpful hints and examples.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's going to be a bundle of laughs!!

Unfortunately I work for the NHS, we have no money and consequently will not be paying anyone else to do it.
