OK, I've tried everywhere but can't find any information on this, so maybe someone here can help. I need to know what (if any) root CA's come installed on a palm device as standard so that we can purchase an appropriate certificate for our web server (as our self certificate brings up a box saying it's not a root trusted cert).

If anyone can help I'l be your best friend for ever and ever!!!!

I don't think the Palm OS does, but your browser should.

I use Blazer on my 515 and I have no problems accessing sites with standard certs (non self-signed) using as an example

For the most part the self signed certs (done properly) are no more and no less secure than the certs you pay for.

As you've noticed the only real difference is that the visitor needs to accept the cert because it wasn't signed by a recognised authority.

I can tell you that we use self-certs and out of maybe 125 processes a week, we get 1 person concerned .. at which point we point them to Paypal and all is well.

It helped that we posted a screen before they see the popup explaining that we're using self-signed certs and that they will get a popup window asking them to accept it. Why they're getting it, and what options they have if they're uncomfortable.
