I recently upgraded from ME to Win2k and I am oh-so-happy with my decision. Only problem is that the device manager thinks I have more PCI cards than I do. I have a network card and a SoundBlaster Live. They are both installed and working fine. But everytime I start my machine I am prompted to install another PCI device. Windows doesn't know what it is and I'm damned if I do either!

Does anyone know what the problem may be? For now I have just agreed to everything Windows says on startup to avoid hearing about it everytime. So at the moment it is just sitting in my device manager as an "Unknown PCI Device".

Off hand I would say soundblaster live. W2K seems to need to load extra stuff and has to do it from the sound blaster drivers disk.Download the newest drivers and have them ready on the HDD.The disk from creative doesnt seem to have the right ones for W2K.
I just did the install last night and had the same thing.

shovel204 is probebly correct. There are other "devices" associated with the SB live that Win2K will need to load that 98 does not. Also have all the lates Motherboard Drivers on hand incase that is not the problem. The Main Board might need to have another device or two listed in Win2K to work Properly. James Collins

Had a friend with this soundcard had the same issue (and a few more) when migrating from ME to Win2k. All is now fine.

Grab the latest drivers for your card from Creative (the ones on the CD are out of date) You also can get the nice sound applications that were available on ME for Win2k from there now.
