Hi all,

Just a quickie. We have our users on roaming profiles at the moment (they are all using XP Pro), however this is putting too much of a strain on the server and network so we want to transfer the profiles to the users machines. Anyone know of the best way to do this. Is there a tool that can do this or would it be a case of disabling the roaming profile and copying all the data accross to the local machine?

Cheers,

Neil

disable the roaming profile by taking it out of their user account in active directroy (does that make sense?)

normally, the profile is already on the machine.
so you shouldn't have anything else to do!

Thanks for the reply Aftertaf,

So am I right in the understanding that the way roaming profiles work is that when a user logs on from a computer, the server will check the computer to see if it has a copy of the profile, checks to see if the server or local data is more recent and then loads accordingly. If there is no local profile it creates one? Is it possible to have the settings/data only on the server (no local copy) in a roaming profile?

So when disabling a roaming profile, would it be better to disable the roaming profile on the account directly after they have logged off so that the local settings/data are up to date

Does that make sense?

Many thanks for your help!

Regards,
