Hello all, say I have a question that seems to be a bugger of a problem. For the last couple months one of our people has had issues with loading Word, specifically while launching any time of reply or new mail because shes uses it as her editor (needs to use it), but it also is slow when simply launching Word, I am assuming its something she changed all those 2 months ago and we have yet to narrow it down.
So here is the actual question, where in her roaming profile folder do I need to go to get rid of all of these settings/whatchamacalits so that it goes away and we can get back to normal. We dug through it a bit and got rid of whatever seemed obvious, then reinstalled it but it was still a bugger. Any ideas are great thanks

Simplest thing is to just rename her current profile and let a new one be created. It will be the cleanest way to do it.

Well renaming it wouldnt really do it I think since it is still pulling her user information i.e. profile from the server and we cant at this time really just delete her profile and uninstall and go from there since there is a lot of dinky stuff thats in it that would be just to much of a hassle to deal with. So if specifically we could find that which contains Word settings we could nail it down without having to "kill a fly with a bazooka

Have you tried deleting her normal.dot and letting it rebuild? She'll lose anything customized therein (autotext, etc.) but at least the bulk of her profile will be intact.

Normal.dot is normally found in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates but do a search of her profile and delete all instances. Be sure to unhide hidden files and folders and uncheck the box next to "hide extensions for known file types" before searching.

Cheers.

Excellent tip cmeagan I will have to give that a go, it seems that that should take care of the problem. I will let you know the outcome. Thanks!

Update, what ended up happenening was I renamed the normal.dot to normal.old, and let it rebuild from there. It seemed that that did nothing to remedy it (to my dismay) so I ended up going through the COM addins and the like and noticed that one of the programs we used to use was still cluttered all around the registry under currentuser and local machine. I went around and got rid of those as well as other general templates and it sped it up quite a bit. It is still noticably slower then other computers but I am assuming that it has something to do with her large mailbox and other roaming profile issues that she currently has. So all in all it is noticably better. I used this to help me dig through the related files. It may not have cleared up totally what was wrong but its a chest full of knowledge for others out there.
