My home PC (running XP Pro) has the same problem with rjhExtensions that thefourthwall describes in thread779-1218887. That thread is closed, hence this new post.

I have run ShellExView, as suggested by Linney in that post, and it shows rjhExtensions as being installed and enabled.

As I right-click a file, regmon shows explorer.exe accessing all the correct values (e.g. HKCR\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\rjhExtensions\(Default)) and returning what I suspect to be the correct settings.

The file rjhExt.dll is in system32 and appears to registered. That is the entries under HKCR\CLSID\{B8B6BCE5-83D6-11D3-9924-B4620CC10000} appear to be correct.

However if I try to register the file using regsvr32 I get an error saying "LoadLibrary("rjhExt.dll") failed - Invalid access to memory location.".

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

When you say "the same problem" is it a Gateway machine?

You can have a look here if you like.

rjh extensions

Is rjhExtensions giving you any error message? Was it installed as an Administrator? What if you uninstall it and either try installing using the built-in Administrator (Normal Mode), or even try installing from Safe Mode?

Thanks for the links and the suggestion Linney.

Sorry, should have said that the symptoms are the same, but the not hardware. It's an HP not a Gateway.

It was installed as the local administrator account and I have tried un-/re-installing.

I'll check the links and see what fruit they bear. I also like the idea of installing (or even just testing) in safe mode.

I've followed the links but they didn't shed much more light.

However I may be getting somewhere... Noticed that when I right-click on a file in the File Open dialogue box from an application, the rjhExtensions options appear. But they still don't appear from Explorer.

Regmon shows different behaviour from the different processes, which I'm investigating now. If I get any answers that might help someone else I'll post them.

Hmmm... All I can work out is that the other processes look in HKCU\Software\RjH Software\rjhExtensions (where the settings are kept) but Explorer.exe doesn't. No idea why.

Looks like I'll have to leave as it one of life's little oddities.

I have inadvertently found a fix for this problem. I too have installed rjhExtensions and not had the context menus appear. I then installed a freeware file archive program called IZArc and the menus then appeared.
