Thanks in advance for any help.

I need to install a RJ31 jack in our wiring closet for a new alarm system. Does anyone know the pinouts or anything about RJ31 jacks. I'm having some trouble finding out on the web.

Thanks,
Jeff

Actually, pins 4 and 5 should come from the Telco, and pins 1 and 8 are the return to the phone equipment. Be sure to use a REAL RJ-31X jack with the "shorting bars", so if the alarm equipment is unplugged, to line is still extended to the phone equipment. The links you reference ARE correct; the terminology is confusing, as "To Network" is the side to the Telco, and "To Telco Wiring" is the side to the phone equipment.

TTT all the references are showing 1 and 8 from the telco and 4 & 5 to vendor network. Do you have any references that show otherwise?

It's the terminology on those references that "sounds" backwards. Remember that these are from USOC manuals that were written for the Telco installers, who installed them originally. So when it says pins 4 & 5 are "To Network", it means the side closest to the central office. Where it says "To Telco Wiring" it means the side towards the jacks or equipment.

Ya, I remember that now. thanks
