is there any way to remotely tell whether a PBX has a ring generator card installed? Is a ring generator card necessary if I set up a 500 port for an inbound fax machine? I have a feeling it is...thanks.
Yes the ring generator is needed to support inbound calls. How else would you know it's ringing. Odds are if there are 500 (2500) sets built on that loop that it has the Ring Gen. pwr supply. Not needed for opt 11, or mini carrier remote.
It IS an Option 11. So I DON'T need a ring generator card? I have been asked to have this machine installed today and I need to be sure this will work. Many, many thanks for your assistance.
thank you, everyone. This is great news. So I will go ahead and build my analog port remotely and have my tech go cross-connect the jack and hopefully all will be well.
One more thing. The DID is 1555. Their SPRE code is 1. Since they're going to have to dial a 9 to fax out there won't be any conflict, will there? I really don't want to start with IDC trees because I am very limited in the time I have to set this up. I think there's a way to set it up so they don't have to dial a 9 but if I did that then there WOULD be a conflict, right?
If the did is 1555 and the spre is 1, then you can't have 1555 as an ext with 4 digit turned on. you will probably have to do an IDC unless you change the spre to 11 to free up that dn range or something similar. What does everyone else think?
well hopefully it won't be an issue because I think they're just going to use this for inbound. Inbound works fine. It was outbound I was concerned with re: SPRE but I can always do IDC later. Thanks again, you cannot imagine how grateful I am for everyone's help.
Just change the SPRE code in LD 17 Gate opener is PARM. You can change it to what ever you desire. SPRE is only used to activate some features. I like a 4 digit number unless heavy feature usage (Call pickup, Forced Charge...)
thanks everyone. I've actually just been told that instead of putting this DID on a fax machine I now need to point it to a remote telephone number. Needless to say, that presents its own new set of challenges, in that I tried setting it up as a dummy ACD DN and NCFW'ing it to the external number and got a fast busy. So now I have to figure out how to make this work. But thank you all nevertheless. At least know I know there's no ring generator card for an Option 11.
if the number is local build it as a dsc and insert the target dn, without the 9, you'll send it out on the right route in the rlb.. that will bypass ncos and rdr problems
my firm decided to just have SBC point a # i got from them to a number here in my office so this was all for naught. Not that it wasn't (as always) a great learning experience but we didn't end up implementing any of this. JohnPoole, I'm going to keep that DSC info for next time. thanks again.
