Hello everyone,

Having a problem where I'm not able to resolve IP addresses from Win2k DNS. I Have the reverse zone created and it will resolve IP addresses with nslookup when I am on the local machine but the IP address is not resolved by other hosts on the internet. Is there anything else I need to do to get the IP address to reverse lookup? If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
BC

is your server the authority for this reverse domain on the internet? What is the reverse domain zone name?

How can I tell if it is the authoritative zone on the internet? It is a primary zone, is that not enough?

Well, you say that other hosts on the INTERNET can't resolve the IP address. If those hosts don't know to look at your DNS server for reverse resolution, they'll be lost. For example, let's say your ISP gave you a block of addresses in the 192.168.1.0/24 network. Since the ISP would be authoritative for at least 192.168.0.0 , they would need to delegate the 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa zone to you before anyone on the internet could resolve your IP's. Has that happened as far as you know? If you tell me what block of addresses you have, I can check from my vantage point...

ok I understand, That's what I am missing. I need my ISP to delegate the in-addr.arpa zone for my IP block to my DNS server. That would make complete sense. Thanks for your help B. it is much appreciated
