I have some serial equipment located in two different sites and I want them to talk to each other. I know that the foreign sites has a Cisco 2511 with ASYNC. My local router is a Cisco 2620 with ASYNC.
Is there a way to configured ASYNC ports at both sites to talk serial-to-serial without the Telnet overhead? In other words, I want the to serial devices to hook to their respective routers and the transport over the network to be transparenet to the serial devices. My serial devices will think they are hardwired together and never know that they're connected to the network.
If it can be done, what is the proper terminolgy I need to use to explain it to my network folks?
