Reverse DNS Not Resolving Workgroup Computers

We have a network that is composed of several domains and workgroup computers. Not all names are showing up. DNS is configured for AD integrated and both secure and non-secure updates. We are not using netBIOS resolution. Any thoughts as to why not all (probably the workgroup computers) will not resolve names? Thanks.

Are the workgroup computers configured for your DNS server?
Are you using DHCP in the workgroup to hand out IP's?
Is the DHCP configured to add DNS A records for those machines?
Also on the clients check for
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Properties, Advanced, DNS, Register this connection's address in DNS
: should be checked

Thanks TechyMCSE2k,

We are using a WatchGuard Firebox X55e to do DHCP. It allows a specification of a DNS server, but nothing more. Makes it tough!

I would setup the DHCP Scope for the workgroup within your AD DHCP server and specify you options there. then configure your router (that the workgroup sits behind) to perform a DHCP helper so that the workgroup pulls their IP's from the AD.

Preference would be to run DHCP out of AD, but the only way the Web filtering on the Firebox works is if it does the DHCP. Sucks. We may have to go with a staic DNS address on the clients to override the one from the firewall.

Is the Workgroup Local? Why would they not run through the AD Domain Web Filters? or all of you devices run through just one filter? With the proper network setup and gateway addresses...you can centralize all of this and remove the Firebox...but I could be way off base as I do not fully know your network infrastructure layout.

The watchguards make a for a inexpensive filtering solution. We will probably keep them. And yes, we have a scope large enough for both the domain and workgroup computers, which are all on one happy subnet.

Can the Workgroup computers be allowed to share your Web Gateway? then only one filter woule be needed...hmm...I talk more after lunch...geting hungry on the East Coast.

This is a surprise. We are using a NAC box and it wasn't resolving in the list. Now several days later, we have most all the workstations listed by name.
But now to an additional DNS question: my boss says that the in-address-arpa zone should list all the hosts in the smae way as they show up in the forward lookup zone. Is this true? I don't ever remember seeing hosts listed like that. Thanks.

They'll be listed in reverse...Name is IP; Type is Pointer; Data is the DNS name
