With VFP 3 you may have to use DDE conversations to get the data you want. But I haven't used it so I'm hoping someone else will come along and help you. If you're still blowing in the wind when I get up in the morning I'll try adding some more details.
If you are using the 32-bit version of VFP 3.0 under a 32-bit version of Windows (as opposed to the Win32s version of VFP 3.0 under Win 3.x), you should be able to use automation.
