Retrieving Deleted Files In Windows 2000

We have several files that have been deleted by a user over the LAN so they are not in the Recycle Bin. Is there any way to retrieve the files, and find out who the user was that deleted them?

One thing Windows 2000 is sadly lacking is a undelete function. If somebody has deleted the files the only thing you can do is run 3rd party software (eg or restore from backup.

I have had to actually use some undelete software before and the only one that retrieved the most data was at They have some really nifty programs.But i don't think you could find out who deleted the files with it, unless you have auditing turned on.
