retrieve Data from a web page using script

I need to script a solution that will load a web page, input a string into a list box and then grab some of the data generated. I am very unfamiliar with IE object model so would really appreciate a few pointers on how to identify certain controls on a loaded web page and read and send data to them.

Any samples or links would be much appreciated. Using IE 6 and need VB based solutions.
