We are in the process of upgrading from Exchange 5.5 to 2k3.
On the previous 5.5 we had set the IMC to log all mail and so effectivley retained a copy all external mail.

I am aware that you can use the Journal option in 2k3 to log all mail but as we are only running standard edition we can only create one mailbox store on exchange.
If I was to enable the "Archive all messages" it would send the messages to a mailbox in the same store. I believe this would cause a loop. Definately not what I am looking for!

I know there are 3rd party solutions out there to capture this information but was wondering if anyone knew of a way of doing it through Exchange 2k3 other than the Journal solution?

Any advise appreciated.

The archive event sink should work.

The only problem with this solution is that you'll find it doesn't fire for messages submitted through MAPI. This happens because the message is in MAPI, not MIME format. To force conversion from MAPI to MIME, you can create a second virtual server, route all mail from the first to the second, then install the sink on the second.

In a high volume enviroment, this probably wouldn't be the best solution, however I notice that you are using E2K3 standard, so I assume the environment is relatively small.
I doublt you have a "border server", so a second virtual server would be more appropriate.

Thanks xmsre

Thats just what I have been looking for.
