I want to restrict yahoo sites and yahoo messenger on my cisco router. How should I do that. Right now everybody have access to all the sites through the Internet connection on the LAN. thanks

can sites like yahoomail, hotmail be restricted by creating Access Control Lists on the cisco routers so that the users can't access these sites thrugh Internet Explorer. I don't have firewall & websense to restrict these sites. thanks in advance.

Hello there,

NBAR will be the way to go, on that lan connection enable nbar protocol discovery : ip nbar protocol-discovery

after few min do : sh ip nbar protocol-discovery this way you will see what other types of traffic is taking out your valuable bandwidth. Next is to apply a policy map based on network type and urls you would like to block, more info at

Good luck !
