Hi all,

we have a colour printer that is currently setup as a network printer on our SBS2003 box. I have removed the everyone group and setup a new security group for those users that are authorised to print in colour.
I then setup a 2nd instance of the same printer and changed the preferences to 'black' printing only.

All of this works fine, my problem is the second instance that I have created of the same printer, I have implemented security restrictions to the everyone group so that they can only print, however they are still able to access the 'printing preferences' screen and I would like to stop this so that they cannot change it back to be able to print in colour.

Any help or advice is most appreciated. Thank you

BRadCollins,

Good job getting to this point! Question: is this a REAL problem or a POSSIBLE problem?

One would think company policy can handle this better than Group Policy. A simple email or posted notice saying "Underlings are NOT allowed to print in color" or something to that effect might be enough.

I guess its actually a possible problem, currently the default is colour and people are of course printing out copies of emails in colour, which is costly and not required.

I think I will take your advice and go with a company policy first and see how we go. I guess a little trust can go along way sometimes.

You don't mention the brand of the printer. If it is an HP, you might want to setup your BW printer connection using the Universal Driver instead of the one specific to that printer. That way the properties of the printer won't list the colour option.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Or you can choose the options as B&W and save the this as default options. I did this with out Canon Color Copier. Default is B&W and if someone wants color, they usually have to call me because they cannot figure it out.
