Hi guys,

I’ve just bought an ‘oldish’ Windows 98 system off a mate that he’d been using at work on their network? Novell I think?
What I wanted to know was, is there any way I can reconfigure it for home use (At the moment every time you try to do anything the system denies you, and asks you to contact the system administrator…) I need to be able to reconfigure it without the Windows 98 CD because I don’t have one anymore? I sold it about 4 years ago…

Any ideas? I’m VERY rusty on 98.

Cheers,

SW.

Sounds like its had some restrictive policies applied to it. See if system policy editor is installed (start, programs, accessories, system tools) and if you can remove policies there. Also check the network properties and remove any clients/protocols you don't need (like Novell).
If its been configured to save multiple user profiles, you could disable that too if its just you using the machine (password properties in control panel).

PS. Have you checked to see if 98 install files (eg, win98_21.cab etc) are stored on hard drive (they're not by default on 98, but some installers save them on hard drive)
