Hi,

We are trying to recover the client file index of a OpenVMS client for a given save set. Data backed up has a retention policy of 1 year (so it is in tape and not marked as for recycled) but we can't browse the content in order to restore only one file. So what we did:

1. put the correct tape in the tape unit
2. ensured that the ssid is in the media index

mminfo -a -v volume.tape

2. with the ssid (we know it) issued:

scanner -i -S ssid \\.\Tape0

but when we try to browse it says that there are no data to browse... is the procedure well done? some step missing?

Pls help.

BTW, it is Networker 6.3 for Windows (the server).

The procedure is o.k. although i would recommend to also apply "-v" for verbosity.

Assuming that you did not forget to setup the remote access rights for that client (directed recovery), i can't think of any reason why you can't browse.

However, can't you recover the save set to a temp. location and get the files from there?

remote access rights? we are not doing a directed recovery, we are trying to recover to the same client (from the same client).

Cheers.

so it is necessary to restart the networker server (the service) in order to re-read the indexes?

Cheers.

one more thing, why do I get another client name in the mminfo query? I mean, NW server name is "server" and the OpenVMS client is "client", but in the mminfo query I get:

[tt]
A00033L1 server 03/01/2005 2000 MB 605274369 cb full DISK$DISCO_1:[000000]

Will actually new index files be added to the CFI's \db6 directory?
If so, the scanner command works - for the CFI. Unfortunately, you can not easily see this on the media index. To sync the databases i would recommend to run "nsrck -X" (cross check).

ufff... finally, as you posted 605 the procedure was ok, the problem was the client name. The customer had changed the client name so a directed recovery was needed. Everytihng is ok now.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers.
