IS-IT--Management
Here is a trap for the uninitiated.
I have been running CA’s Brightstore v9 since the start of the year (2003) on a Netware 4.11 server (fully patched). Manager is running on my W2K SP3 laptop.
After initial problems with getting the Manager to run, all has gone fairly smoothly. Backups have run to schedule, restores have worked as expected. I was fairly happy and relaxed a little too much! The last time I checked that I could restore properly was the start of July. In the mean time I have checked that the backs have run to completion, and pint the report, daily.
This month (November) I needed to recover some data. “No worries” thinks I. But the darn thing won’t run a restore. After much digging, by a third party, it turns out the solution is to enter the full NDS path for the user under Server Admin in the Manager.
The only thing that changed in the period between the restore operation working and it failing to start was to move the laptop, running Manager, to a new WINDOWS domain. Why that would affect a search of the NDS path is beyond me.
