Trying to move 2003 server to new vmware server. How are you suppose to restore the shadow components on the new server? Got a complete backup including shadow components and restored the c: and that worked fine. Now trying to restore the shadow components and not have much luck. Tried redircting to the c: drive of the new server but all that does is copy over the folders to root of c instead of to the correct directries. I could always ghost the box but wanted to go through using BE 9.0 for a restore.

What is the error during the restore. Im assuming you have downed the orginal server.
VMWARE has other tools like pv2 to migrade physical hardware to virtual machines.

Not getting any errors, when restoring the shadowed componets they are being copied over to the root of c: in the system files, registry and event logs folders (which I assume is what is being backed up by the shadow components)instead of overwritting the one currently on the servers. Don't think I'm doing the restore correctly but I don't how to tell the job to copy those folder to the correct location on the destination servers. Don't get to select to retore to shadow components like you do when you create a backup job.

You can't redirect Shadow Copy Components back to Shadow Copy Components on a server with a different name to the original.

Just name the server the same as the original, then restore it back.

Renamed the server, didn't have in same domain, just a workgroup, restored over the backup server [SAD]. See there was a tid on veritas about this with 9.0.
