I did a stupid thing and disabled some services in Windows 2000 (trying to speed up startup). The services are Messenger, Remote Registry, Server. Now things aren't working correctly and I find I cannot un-disable them. I also cannot add/remove programs, dial up, copy/paste, etc. When I try to reinstall Windows 2000, I get error. I tried a clean install with the CD and it gave me an error.

Does anyone have any suggestion?

You mean if you run services.msc, you cannot start the services from there, nor set them to autiomatic so they will start next time windows does?

And the clean install - if it really was a clean install (ie, you wiped the drive first), what error did it give (as that points to a likely hardware problem - previous actions regarding services will NOT affect a clean install).

You might be able to just use the registry to start the services again > Regedit drill down to HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services - from there you should be able to locate the services you have disabled. Change the start value as appropriate to

2 Automatic.
3 Manual.
4 Disable.

Then reboot and you should be golden
