Hi All

We are decommisioning our Novell Netware Servers (Migrating to 2003) which are currently backed up by ArcserveIt v6.6 sp1998. We would like to decommission the Novell backup server as well, so my question is what is required to restore the files to say another Arcserve version. We have v.6.5 or 2000 around the place which could be used.
I did a test restore using v6.5 and all appeared to be fine (restore completed successfully) but the files appear to be compressed or encrypted, so I guess that I am missing something like an agent or similar.
Any help would be appreciated as we don't won't to have a Novell Server sitting around for Seven years in case a restore is needed.

Thanks

David

Are the backups made with an ARCserve for Windows or an ARcserve for NetWare version and which version of Netware are you on ??

regards

Hi Cyklops

Thanks for the response. We are using ArcserveIt 6.6 Enterprise Edition for Netawre for our backups currently and would like to use the NT version which we use elsewhere in the company.

Thanks

David

To restore from tape, you will need a Netware server to restore to. This is beacue backups to tape in Netware use TSA's (Target Service Agents) to help package the data to tape, but they are also needed to un-package the data from tape... Since these TSA's are a Novell thing and not available on NT, you cannot restore the data back to NT.
