We recently had a request to restore mailboxes from our old legato (4.4.1) backup server from more then 2 years ago. Problem was that our browse retention period was set to 2 years, and we are not able to view backups done before april of 2001. Our retention period for the same backups was set to 10 years, so we still are able to see the individual savesets using the Networker User (Saveset recovery) program.

Now the problem is, everytime we try and restore the saveset, it doesn't work. The server starts reading the tape, but the files never show up on the server. I see a message in the windows that says "unknown type for file MSEXCH:IS PRIV.EDB"

Is there anyway to restore the exchange IS from a saveset? Or am I going about this all wrong. Again is is an old version of legato, 4.4.1 .

Thanks for your help.

Version of Exchange ?
Version of Legato Exchange Module?

Sorry, Exchange Version 5.5 Legato Exchange Module 1.1
But like I said I'm not able to use the Exchange module because I can't browse the backups done before April 2001.

Thanks again for your help

You can restore Exchange saveset only with the Exchange module! (and the same Exchange version)
You said that the browse policy is 2 years, and the retention policy is 10 years: so you have first to scan the tape to reload the savesets caracteristics in the index.
If it is something like :"MSEXCH:xxx" you have to use Legato Module for Exchange.
"unknown type for file" says that you try to recover a wrong type of file.
So try : scanner -i -S ssid -v <device>

Hope it helps.
