If you look at the Microsoft Article they are last resort options.
I have seen it done after running the restore then DONT reboot and install the updated hardware drivers for the new system, then reboot. But I have see that down the road the machine has to be formatted becuse of OS issue .
I realise its not ideal mate, but i'm looking into disaster recovery.
We recently went to our DR test site (3rd party) they had prebuilt \ simulated all of our servers, ie server name, correct drive partitions, OS and SP level etc, BUT on different server hardware to what we actually use here.
All we did at their site was to restore from OUR backup tapes which we took on the day from the previous nights backup, rebooted, and they just worked!!!!
I have been trying it here in the office on our test domain, but to no avail!!!!! Just keep getting a black screen after POST test.
Unfortunately the guy that ran the "show" is on hols for a couple of weeks, but i'd like to know what he did on the servers for a restore to work.
Thanks for your input!!!! I will update you if i ever find out what they did.
Because i was going from a multi processor ACPI HAL to to server with a single CPU - after the restore, we had to change the HAL type to uni processor ACPI HAL
