Hi,

Can Veritas backup exec be used to restore data off a tape that was created with windows 2000 backup software?

If so, how would one do this...I presume I would have to do an inventory or a catalog of the tape.

Thanks

Julian

I would have to say no as they are two different backup softwares.

You may be able to do this. BE writes in BEMTF (BackupExec MTF format and w2K writes in MTF format. I know that you can restore BackupExec BEMTF media using MTFCheck,
here is a Veritas TID explaining how to do it.

I am not sure if you can restore W2k backup via backupExec, but it might be possible to Catalog the tape and see whats on it...worth a try anyway

Inventory and catalog the tape.
You will then be able to restore from it.
have done this many times, not only with tape, but also the bkf files that Ntbackup makes.
