Hello

I need to restore 10 tapes exabyte8500 from Feb 2000.
I wonder if I am a computer specialist or archaeology

I make a install NETWORKER 7.1.1 , with exabytes mamoth2

I made scanner commande with -impv and I get in my inerface (option VOLUME) , label name tape ,with saveset.

When I have errors of reading, the already restored saveset becomes aborted. How to correct it ?

-------------------------------------

Then the solution that I found, it is to launch the scanner directly on NOVELL by the command

scanner -c CLIENT -N DATA: exabytes -x uasm -rv

A faster solution exists you it to restore the data even with the errors of reading of tape

Excuse I for the quality of my English

Hi,

I think your best chance is to run scanner -m [dev]. This will only rebuild the media index, ie you will not be able to browse the backups. When you have the media index, you can easily find the SSIDs you will need to restore.

By only specifying the SSID with the recover command, it will be a save set recover. That means everything will be restored back to its original location (unless -d is specified with the recover command for relocation). You can also select what portion of a save set you want back by speifying the exact path. A save set recover will not stop trying to restore due to a read error, so you might get lucky and get most or all of your data back.

The suggested scanner command with piping to uasm will not work since you have not specified any device to read from.

If you encounter a problem, you may use scanner to space directly to a certain physical location (filemark & record) to start with a next scanner attempt.

Thank you for your replys .
The being continuation of restores the data under NOVELL 4.11, but the uasm does not exist so this command does not work

scanner -c pantw003 exabyte04 -x uasm -rv

thank you for your help

Use another machine. The NW media can be read on any compatible device. So let me suggest this procedure:

- Get a hold of a NW server software for your OS (Windows, Linux, UNIX, it does not matter).
- Install a compatible drive there.
- Install the software.
NW will run in evaluation mode for 30 days. With the pseudo auth code "grace" you may extend this for 15 more days. And your server may even become disabled. But this just means that you can not do backups - recoveries are always possible.
- Create your Novell client.
- Define your device(s).
- Scan the media here.
- Recover your data.

Does this make sense?

Thank you In ALL
