I have two different servers running Windows Server 2003 with ArcServe r11.1 SP1. Both run a full backup that overwrites the tape on Monday. The rest of the week it appends to the same tape. I found that I can not restore by session because I have multiple session numbers listed under the same media in the database. Both servers have the same problem. Reinstalling ArcServe from the ground up did not fix the problem.
Reviewing the logs shows the full backup uses sessions 1,2,3 etc. and then the next days backup that appends to this media starts at session 1 again. Also, verify jobs are useless since it looks at session 1,2 etc. again instead of the real session numbers. Check out the snippet from this log file:
Description.................. Differential - Append to Media
Workstation.................. AOGSRV01
Source....................... D:\Data
Target....................... WEEK-2, ID B48F, Sequence #1
Session...................... 1
The above should be session 5 since there are 4 session listed in the full backup job the day before. Now check out the verify pass from the same log. You can see that session 1 actually verified the C:\ drive backup from the day before and not the D:\Data directory backup.
Workstation.................. AOGSRV01
WEEK-2, ID B48F, Sequence #1
Session...................... 1
Target....................... C:
Anyone else have this problem or know the fix?
Thanks,
Scott
