I have a backupserver with Backup Exec 11d where several servers are backupped to with a remote agent. Every server has its own backup-to-disk folder. After all servers have been backed up at night I put all these backup-to-disk folders on a tape. Now I want to restore a backup-to-disk folder from tape back to the server. The problem is that the server thinks that this file allready has been overwritten so it cant be cataloged (like its a tape where data is not available anymore after it has been overwritten). I also cant restore it to a different backup-to-disk folder because Backup Exec thinks it is the same media that was in a different backup-to-disk device before.
Does someone has an idea how to get the data from the backupfile?

Thanks in advance.

Thats because you improperly backed up the backup to disk files. You should have been running backup to disk jobs then running a duplicate job in backup exec to duplicate the backup to disk media to tape.

What I would do is stop the services and rename the catalogs folder and start services back up.

Go into tools - option - catalog and uncheck the box to request all media and try a catalog on each backup to disk file. It should give you a byte count but fail.

If you still cant get it to catalog then I would suggest to look on symantec site about saving out or backup exec data base and reloading from base to get that media catalogged and restore then bringing back in your backup exec database

Thx for the reply steveot but I just got it. I moved the media to retired media and then deleted it. The .bkf file stays in place. Then moved the old .bkf file to the backup-to-disk folder and started an inventory and after that a catalogjob. Now I can run a restorejob and can select the data I was looking for. The media resides in the "Imported Media" media set so you have to move it back to where you want it.
