Resource Scheduling

I have it set up so that several resources can be scheduled automatically but...it only works if the user puts that resource in the resources field while scheduling the meeting. If users put the resource in the required field (or for that matter the optional field) of course the resource account gets an email inviting them to the meeting and the resource never gets scheduled. Is there a way to force a resource to only be allowed in the resources field?
